For technicians

This track follows one job from your side of the workshop. The advisor books the vehicle in and owns the customer; you own what happens in the bay. Everything here works on a phone with one hand.

Stage 1: Get into the app

You do not create your own login. Your owner or admin issues a one-time access pass with a code, a link, and a QR that all point at the same place; the SMS code to your phone is the actual security check. After sign-in the app lands on My Jobs.

Full walkthrough: Using the technician app.

In the product: install the app, enter your access code, confirm the SMS.

Stage 2: Pick up the job

Job cards come to you assigned by the lead or the bay scheduler. At a shop with no lead, you can claim an unassigned card yourself from My Jobs; the claim only succeeds while the card is still free, so two people cannot grab the same one.

Full walkthrough: Work a job card.

In the product: open My Jobs and tap your card. If the vehicle is still booked in, the app asks you to confirm it has actually arrived.

Stage 3: Run the inspection

The inspection is where your eyes become the advisor's quote, so evidence matters more than speed. Work the template row by row: set a severity, add a measurement or note where the item asks, and capture photos or video on the row.

The severity control on an inspection item

Tapping an answered row reopens it for editing; only the explicit Reset action clears it. Full walkthrough: Record findings with evidence.

In the product: start the inspection template attached to the job and submit when the checklist is done.

Stage 4: Use voice instead of typing

Hands dirty, bay noisy: tap the voice control at the bottom of the job page or inspection runner and speak the finding. Openhood types a draft into the form for you to confirm. It never speaks aloud and never sends anything to a customer on its own.

Full walkthrough: Using the voice assistant.

Stage 5: Approval comes back as work

After you submit, the advisor quotes your findings and the customer approves by secure link or text. Approved lines land back with you as one additional-work job card, one task per approved item. Declined work never reaches your card.

In the product: watch My Jobs; the approved-work card appears when the customer signs off.

Stage 6: Do the work

Working the card means clocking your time, recording what you did, and moving each task through its status.

  1. Log labour with the running timer or a manual entry. You can only have one timer running; starting a new one stops the old one.
  2. Add parts to the card with quantity, cost, and a real supplier, and update each line's procurement status as it moves. See Add parts to a job.
  3. Mark parts fitted as they go on the vehicle.
  4. Type Work Carried Out on each task as the real account of the work; review, the report, and the invoice all read from it.
  5. Set each task's status as you finish it.

Stage 7: The wash

A wash is repair order state, not a job card. If your site has a detailer, they work a shared wash queue from My Jobs. If there is no detailer, or the detailer is away, the wash control appears on your job page and you record Done or Unable to Wash, with an optional note or photo.

Full walkthrough: Wash and detailing.

Stage 8: Finish clean

Before handover, some jobs get a QC check: a pass or fail checklist assigned to a performer, kept separate from your inspection findings. If one lands in your My Jobs, work each prompt Pass, Fail, or N/A and the signed result goes on the job-card report.

Full walkthrough: QC checks before handover.

No signal in the bay?

The app shows an offline banner with a count of queued actions and replays them when you reconnect, so do not re-enter work while the banner is up. See Working offline.
